Lead Engineer - AI-Native Email App

Overview

Lead Engineer (AI-Native Email App) provides hands-on technical leadership, owning complex products and systems and raising the engineering bar across the team.

What you'll do

• Lead technical design and execution of major products, features, and engineering initiatives.
• Design scalable, reliable systems across backend, frontend, APIs, databases, and infrastructure.
• Stay hands-on via coding, prototyping, code reviews, debugging, and production issue solving.
• Make architecture decisions and technical trade-offs balancing speed, scalability, reliability, and maintainability.
• Break ambiguous problems into clear solutions and execution plans.
• Own systems after release by monitoring production, investigating incidents, and improving reliability.
• Mentor engineers and provide clear feedback on designs and code.

What you'll need

• Significant experience building and shipping production systems.
• Deep expertise in one or more areas such as backend, frontend, distributed systems, APIs, databases, or cloud infrastructure.
• Strong system design and architecture skills for complex or high-scale systems.
• Willingness to remain hands-on with strong coding ability.
• Proven experience leading major engineering projects or providing technical leadership to other engineers.
• Comfort reviewing code, debugging complex issues, and working with production systems.
• Strong English communication skills.

Details

• Hybrid work: expected to work from the local office at least 3 days per week, with flexibility for remote work on other days.
• Location: Tokyo, Japan.
