Overview
Lead the aero design of aero-derivative gas turbine engine combustors for land-based power generation, supporting the overall engine development program with CFD as the primary design tool.
What you'll do
- Independently execute, and/or lead aero design of aero-derivative gas turbine engine combustors for land-based power generation applications.
- Perform hi-fidelity CFD analysis to meet combustor aero performance requirements on durability, emissions, and operability.
- Perform 3D CFD (RANS & LES) modelling of LNG fueled gas turbine combustors, including airflow, fuel injection and reacting flow, combustion dynamics and emissions modelling.
- Evaluate and propose new designs and assess their impact on critical-to-quality parameters such as fuel air mixing, emissions, combustion dynamics and durability.
- Work with a multi-site global team to understand performance shortfalls, evaluate and propose design solutions, validate combustor performance seen in tests with CFD, and facilitate entry into service for improved designs.
- Communicate with stakeholders, provide insights, and propose innovative solutions to technical challenges.
- Release down-selected designs or solution strategies for rig and engine testing through proper review processes.
- Lead engineering problem solving and decision making through active program execution, planning, and coordination with global stakeholders and cross-functional teams.
- Guide less experienced team members and draw on more experienced members as required.
- Contribute to development and improvement of design methodologies and continuously improve design processes and tools.
What you'll need
- Master's degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university with graduate level courses on combustion and fluid thermal sciences, AND more than 3 years (3-8 years) of industry experience in relevant disciplines such as combustion systems design, CFD analysis, testing and validation.
- OR, PhD degree in combustion sciences (numerical or experimental) from an accredited university with more than 1 year (1-5 years) of industry or post-doc experience in the relevant domain.
- Proficiency in combustion/aero-thermal CFD modelling and design processes.
- Suitable competency in commercial CFD tools such as Fluent/StarCCM, Spaceclaim, solid modelling tools such as Unigraphics, 1D flow and reactor networks, or analytical design tools, and programming tools such as C/C++.
Nice to have
- Proficiency in combustion/aero-thermal fundamentals and numerical methods.
- Original thinker, passion for continuous improvement and willingness to adapt/innovate.
- Independent worker with strong sense of ownership and responsibility.
- Effective team player with execution rigor and demonstrated program management skills in cross-functional, diverse and global teams.
- Passion for continuous improvement or demonstrated understanding and application of LEAN concepts.
- Global mindset with keen ability to innovate and challenge the status quo.
