Lead Packaging Design Engineer

Overview

Lead end-to-end packaging engineering projects for large and complex products, from concept development through testing, validation, documentation, and implementation. The role supports NPI, product transfers, cost productivity, safety, sustainability, and supply chain initiatives.

What you'll do

• Lead packaging projects from opportunity identification through implementation.
• Design packaging for finished goods, raw materials, plant-to-plant movements, and customer shipments.
• Develop packaging concepts, drawings, specifications, and 3D models.
• Plan and execute packaging testing and validation using ISTA and ASTM methods.
• Evaluate packaging performance, protection, cost, sustainability, and supply chain efficiency.
• Manage design changes, technical documentation, supplier qualification, and implementation.
• Coordinate multiple projects with global and local cross-functional stakeholders.

What you'll need

• At least 7 years of relevant professional experience in packaging engineering, design, and development.
• Bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering with substantial packaging experience, plus a master's in Packaging Management.
• Hands-on experience with packaging for large or complex products.
• Proficiency with Creo for packaging design and 3D modeling.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD for engineering drawings and packaging design.
• Knowledge of corrugated packaging, wood, foam, plastics, paper, and molded fiber.
• Experience with packaging testing and validation, including ISTA and ASTM standards.

Nice to have

• Experience with medical devices, industrial equipment, or other technically complex products.
• Experience with NPI, product transfers, cost productivity, safety, or supply chain projects.
• Experience working with packaging suppliers on design, testing, qualification, and implementation.
• Experience with domestic and international transportation and distribution packaging.
