Lead Systems Engineer

Overview

Lead the design, automation, operation and troubleshooting of FactSet's enterprise network systems (WAN, LAN, SAN, WiFi, load balancing, internet egress, DNS, AWS cloud networking, network automation and market data environments), providing technical leadership across LAN/SD-WAN/DC and cloud networking.

What you'll do

• Act as a consultative resource for clients, vendors and internal leaders.
• Engage in major project delivery and contribute regularly to improve the stability and performance of the network.
• Project manage business and network team initiatives.
• Configure Cisco / Arista routers, switches and cloud networking services to integrate with clients, vendors and FactSet's internal networks.
• Build long-lived interpersonal relationships with clients and internal stakeholders.
• Serve as escalation point for network-down emergencies and layer 1-7 network troubleshooting.
• Research, design and implement new connections to market data providers and other third parties.
• Streamline existing and new processes using templates, automation and workflow systems.
• Lead and mentor junior network engineers.
• Coordinate with IT teams to secure necessary network equipment.
• Develop and execute initiatives to simplify, standardize and optimize network and security operations methods and tools.
• Assess existing network technologies to increase performance, security and efficiency, and make changes where required.

What you'll need

• BS degree in an engineering discipline or equivalent.
• 8+ years of relevant experience.
• 3+ years' experience as a technical lead.
• Ability to be self-sufficient and to grasp new technologies easily.
• Maintain knowledge of present and emerging technologies.
• Thorough understanding of routing protocols, TCP/IP, EVPN, VXLAN, MP-BGP, DCI, and LAN switching.
• Experience with BGP and EIGRP routing protocols; router/switch architectures.
• Understanding of Kubernetes networking concepts and ability to build and operate K8s cluster networking, K8s ingress and service mesh.
• Good understanding of HTTP/HTTPS, DNS, DHCP, SNMP and SMTP protocols.
• Deep understanding of cloud networking across one public cloud provider (AWS, Azure or GCP); broader understanding of cloud computing.
• Ability to troubleshoot and isolate technical issues in a timely manner.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to be a cohesive group member and to manage many projects simultaneously.
• Familiarity with network automation tools: Python, Perl or other scripting language; Ansible, Salt or other automation tools; REST APIs; YAML, JSON and other data models.

Nice to have

• Experience with Wireshark.
• Experience with multicast, a track record of interaction with ISPs, and strong analytical, project management and troubleshooting skills.
• Competence in network firewalls, load balancers, wireless networks, and network operating systems (IOS, IOS-XE, JunOS, EOS, F5/tmsh).
• Experience with NSX, Infoblox, Linux and Efficient IP.
• Ability to use AI developer toolsets such as Claude Code, Gemini CLI or Codex for day-to-day operations.
• Understanding of WAN and LAN technologies and how devices, protocols and systems interact across the network.
• Understanding of the modern datacenter stack and how application compute and storage drive network requirements.
• Understanding of public, private and hybrid network architectures.
• Experience designing networks, not only implementing and supporting them.
• Competency in programming languages and/or scripting.
• Financial industry experience and/or background in a large enterprise network.
• Experience building, leading or mentoring a team.
• Experience with Unix, Linux and Windows operating systems.
• Multiple Cisco or other vendor professional certifications; CCIE or equivalent certification in any stream.

Details

• Location: Hyderabad, India.
• Participate in Saturday and Sunday on-call shift rotation.
• Willing to work a 16x5 shift rotation.
