Leader, Software Engineering

Overview

Leads a team of software engineers in designing, developing and implementing products or foundational technology, and directs software systems development, applications development and software quality assurance for enhancements and new products, including cloud-based or internet-related tools.

What you'll do

• Lead a team of software engineers in the design, development and implementation of products or foundational technology.
• Typically lead teams working on large features from technical design through completion.
• Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure technical standards, including with external technology providers and internal technology dependencies.
• Contribute to and maintain processes and standards, such as design reviews, security and testing.
• Provide feedback and insight into standards and practices, identifying areas for improvement in process, architecture, design and security.
• Consider all aspects of security, from secure development practices to proper security architecture functionality.
• Lead large and/or complex projects from requirements to completion.
• Manage product and/or system level tradeoffs and design decisions to drive quality and consistency, and update team priorities as appropriate.
• Be accountable for quality of product within the area of responsibility, and make recommendations on issues, opportunities and improvements focused on quality and performance.
• Contribute to product roadmap discussions and provide schedules and resource estimates, driving successful project and/or product development.
• May lead discussions with customers and/or stakeholders to explain solutions, gather feedback, and work with cross-functional teams to reflect feedback in design decisions and deployment.
• Work multi-functionally to define, drive and deliver key projects in a timely manner, with teams such as Product Management, Operations, QA, Firmware, Software, Mechanical and Vendors.

What you'll need

• Bachelor's degree plus 15 years of related experience, or Master's degree plus 12 years of related experience, or PhD plus 8 years of related experience (typically).
• 4+ years of supervisory experience.
