Machine Design Engineering Team Leader

Overview

Lead a team of mechanical design engineers supporting 3M Manufacturing within the Engineering Systems and Technology organization, while also contributing hands-on machine design work.

What you'll do

• Coordinate and oversee the work of a team of design engineers to ensure all work meets established standards and project objectives.
• Manage the allocation of work across the team based on individual capabilities, specific requirements in the work, and workload of each team member.
• Directly contribute design engineering work to provide effective machine design solutions to a variety of new and existing manufacturing equipment.

What you'll need

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering or related field (completed and verified prior to start).
• Minimum 8 years of experience working in a technical, manufacturing, and/or engineering environment.
• Minimum 5 years of mechanical design experience related to industrial machines.
• Minimum 2 years of experience in a supervisory role for mechanical design engineers.
• Proficient with machine design using modern 3D CAD tools (eg Siemens NX, SolidWorks).

Nice to have

• Five (5) years of experience designing machines for web-based or automated manufacturing processes.
• Strong theoretical understanding and experience in the practical design of machine intra-component fit and prescription of dimensional tolerancing.
• Strong theoretical understanding and experience in the practical application of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing.
• Thorough knowledge of material characteristics and proper selection of materials and surface treatments to satisfy design requirements.
• Familiarity and first-hand experience with machine assembly and fabrication processes including milling, welding, and additive manufacturing.
• Team player with the ability to contribute in a highly-collaborative, cross-functional environment.
