Manager I, Engineering - Applied AI - Natural Language & Conversational Interfaces

Overview

Engineering Manager I for Applied AI, leading engineers and applied scientists building agentic AI foundations for scale in complex production environments.

What you'll do

• Lead and develop a team focused on building agentic systems that operate at scale.
• Work with product managers, research teams, and cross-functional partners from framing through broader adoption.
• Own end-to-end delivery of high-quality AI systems from early research to production-grade reliability.
• Navigate shipping tradeoffs for AI products across quality, latency, cost, and safety.
• Drive AI evaluation and iteration by defining quality bars and building offline/online evaluation pipelines.
• Support cross-team collaboration and knowledge sharing across the AI organization.
• Coach engineers for career growth and foster experimentation, innovation, and learning.
• Participate in hiring and help shape the future team as the organization grows.

What you'll need

• People-focused management experience leading and mentoring engineers.
• Deep technical expertise in areas such as large language models, RAG, semantic search, agentic systems, deep learning, or NLP.
• Experience with evaluation methodologies for AI systems, including offline benchmarks and online metrics.
• Product instinct to anchor work in customer problems and define success criteria.
• Experience taking AI products from 0 to 1 by scoping hypotheses and deciding what to pursue, pivot, or stop.
• BS/MS/PhD in Machine Learning, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent professional experience.
