Manager Quality Engineering

Overview

Lead the overall test effort as the single point of contact for testing on the project, covering test advocacy, resource planning and management, and resolution of issues that impede testing.

What you'll do

• Coordinate with the project team (QA/Project Management, BA, Technology and QA Directors) to ensure the Master Test Plan is created, reviewed and signed off.
• Ensure traceability of all testing deliverables to business requirements.
• Manage test leads' and testers' work throughout the testing life cycle to ensure timely completion of all testing deliverables.
• Ensure appropriate planning and management of test resources.
• Assess the progress and effectiveness of the test effort.
• Develop and maintain testing process training materials and ensure the team follows the testing standards, guidelines and methodology in the test strategy document.
• Establish and facilitate communication between the QA team, project team and appropriate support teams.
• Provide weekly status updates and reporting.
• Prioritize impacts and facilitate viable workarounds.
• Provide regular status of progress, issues and escalation requests to stakeholders (Development Manager, QA Directors and Business Managers).
• Provide ongoing coaching and support for new test resources joining the test or as needed.
• Advocate an appropriate level of quality through resolution of important defects.
• Advocate an appropriate level of testability focus in the software development process.
• Organize scrum and status update meetings.
• Build a testing team of professionals with appropriate skills, attitudes and motivation.
• Identify training requirements.
• Assign tasks to all testing team members and ensure each has sufficient work on the project.
• Ensure content and structure of all testing documents and artifacts are documented and maintained.
• Be a strong leader for the team to look up to and follow.
• Be instrumental in conducting performance reviews.

What you'll need

• 10+ years of overall testing experience across multiple platforms and applications, including proven experience leading test teams for a minimum of 5 years.
• Hands-on working experience in manual and automation testing and use of different test management tools, testing techniques, estimation and test solution design.
• Expertise in any two major streams of testing (functional automation, security, process definition or performance).
• Has led projects on manual testing and automation/performance testing.
• Ability to lead a team of 15+ engineers.
• Ability to think on their feet and lead by example.
• Hands-on lead position with flexibility to take on new responsibilities when asked.
• Knowledge of all aspects of the software engineering process.
• People skills, especially diplomacy and advocacy.
• Planning and management skills.
• Strong experience with Agile, Kanban and similar processes.
• Knowledge of any scripting language.
• Able to mentor the team on technical aspects.
• Strong experience preparing project status reports.
• Excellent communication skills.
