Network Solutions Engineer - Onsite at Fort Meade, MD

Overview

Network Solutions Engineer (Optical Engineer) providing onsite support for a customer project at Fort Meade, MD, including test plan leadership and local SME support.

What you'll do

• Collaborate with customers and stakeholders to understand project requirements for network design and implementation.
• Develop and execute test plans to validate equipment functionality, interoperability, security, and performance.
• Translate test results into actionable implementation plans and provide engineering support during deployment.
• Support pre-commissioning activities in customer labs or staging facilities.
• Commission network equipment and optimize span/channel parameters for greenfield implementations.
• Provide customer guidance and operational training for Ciena Network Management Systems (NMS).
• Enrol network elements, create device profiles, configure backups, provision services, and escalate/resolve platform issues.

What you'll need

• U.S. Citizenship required.
• Active Secret Security Clearance required (Top Secret preferred).
• Experience with Ciena products.
• Strong understanding of SONET, DWDM, ROADM/nOADM, and provisioning/implementation.
• Strong understanding of Ethernet architecture, provisioning, and implementation.
• Knowledge of IP/MPLS/L3 protocols, including MPLS-TP.
• Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications/Networking or related technical field (or equivalent experience in lieu of degree).
