Overview
Execute performance testing for assigned applications, working with the Performance Engineering Lead and cross-functional teams to validate agreed non-functional requirements and report findings.
What you'll do
- Collaborate with stakeholders to understand business-critical journeys, application architecture, expected volumes, and agreed NFRs.
- Contribute to performance test plans and workload models, including transaction mix, concurrency, throughput, pacing, think time, and test duration.
- Develop, debug, and maintain reusable performance test scripts with correlation, parameterization, assertions, and appropriate transaction definitions.
- Prepare and validate test data, application access, environment readiness, and monitoring prerequisites before execution, following approved test-data and security practices.
- Execute baseline, load, stress, spike, and endurance tests as required by the agreed test approach.
- Analyze response-time percentiles, throughput, error rates, and resource utilization, comparing steady-state results with agreed thresholds and previous baselines to identify regressions and trends.
- Produce clear test reports covering workload, environment, results, limitations, risks, and recommendations; communicate progress and blockers promptly to stakeholders.
- Document performance defects with supporting evidence, track remediation with the relevant teams, and validate fixes through retesting.
- Use application performance monitoring (APM), infrastructure metrics, and logs to investigate bottlenecks with developers, system engineers, database administrators, architects, and application owners; contribute evidence-based improvement recommendations.
- Maintain reusable test assets and contribute to scripting, reporting, and process automation; recommend and implement agreed improvements to testing quality and efficiency.
What you'll need
- Bachelor's degree or diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- 3–5 years of relevant hands-on experience in performance testing or performance engineering, including scripting, execution, monitoring, and results analysis.
- Hands-on experience with LoadRunner Enterprise or LoadRunner Professional, including VuGen scripting, scenario configuration, test execution, and results analysis.
- Practical knowledge of correlation, parameterization, pacing, think time, assertions, transaction definitions, and script troubleshooting.
- Understanding of HTTP/HTTPS, REST APIs, and three-tier or multi-tier application architecture.
- Experience with at least one relevant APM tool, such as CA APM, AppDynamics, or Dynatrace, or a log-analysis and monitoring tool such as Splunk; proficiency in every listed product is not required.
- Ability to interpret response-time percentiles, throughput, error rates, concurrency, and resource utilization, and relate test results to agreed NFRs.
- Working knowledge of a relevant scripting language and basic operating-system, network, and database performance concepts.
- Strong analytical problem-solving, documentation, and stakeholder communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across teams.
Nice to have
- Exposure to Java-based application diagnostics, cloud-based applications, or distributed services.
- Experience with additional load-testing tools relevant to the application landscape.
- Exposure to Git, continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD), and performance-testing or reporting automation.
- Familiarity with project lifecycles, incident, change, and problem-management processes, and service-level agreements (SLAs), in support of testing and defect investigation.
- Experience using approved AI-assisted development tools, such as GitHub Copilot, with human validation and adherence to security and confidentiality requirements.
