PowerBuilder Developer

Overview

Develop, enhance, maintain and support enterprise applications built on PowerBuilder, working with business, technical and support teams to deliver solutions and resolve production issues.

What you'll do

• Develop, enhance, maintain and support applications using the PowerBuilder framework.
• Analyze business requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
• Design, develop and modify PowerBuilder applications and components.
• Write, optimize and troubleshoot SQL queries, stored procedures and database objects.
• Work with relational databases such as SQL Server, Oracle and PostgreSQL.
• Perform application debugging, root-cause analysis and production issue resolution.
• Participate in application modernization, enhancement and migration initiatives where required.
• Collaborate with Business Analysts, QA, architects and other engineering teams.
• Perform code reviews and ensure adherence to development and coding standards.
• Develop and execute unit tests and support system and integration testing.
• Prepare and maintain technical documentation.
• Participate in release and deployment activities.
• Provide L2/L3 production support and ensure timely resolution of critical incidents.
• Identify opportunities to improve application performance, stability, maintainability and user experience.

What you'll need

• 5+ years of hands-on experience in PowerBuilder development.
• Strong knowledge of PowerScript and PowerBuilder application development.
• Strong SQL development and database programming skills.
• Experience with SQL Server, Oracle or Sybase databases.
• Good understanding of relational database concepts, joins, indexing, stored procedures and performance tuning.
• Experience with debugging and troubleshooting complex application issues.
• Knowledge of the software development lifecycle and Agile methodologies.
• Experience working with source control and deployment processes.
• Good understanding of enterprise application architecture and integration concepts.

Nice to have

• Experience with PowerBuilder upgrades or migration to newer versions.
• Experience with PowerBuilder DataWindow and complex UI development.
• Exposure to REST/SOAP APIs and application integrations.
• Experience with application modernization or migration from legacy technologies.
• Knowledge of .NET, Java or other modern application technologies is a plus.
• Experience supporting business-critical enterprise applications.
• Exposure to CI/CD and DevOps practices is desirable.
