Principal Data Engineer

Overview

Principal Data Engineer (Engineering Leader – Data) who leads delivery and operations of data products and platforms across squads, with end-to-end accountability.

What you'll do

• Own end-to-end delivery and operation of data products and platforms across multiple squads.
• Define roadmaps, OKRs, release plans, and manage scope, estimation, risk, and stakeholder communication.
• Build and lead teams, including hiring, coaching, performance management, and succession planning.
• Establish reusable, metadata-driven engineering patterns and “golden paths” for delivery.
• Define and govern enterprise semantic models, KPI/metric definitions, and query-ready views for BI and self-serve analytics.
• Oversee streaming and real-time event pipelines with reliability and replay semantics.
• Implement quality, metadata/lineage, observability/FinOps, and security/compliance practices.

What you'll need

• Experience range stated as 1–5+ years.
• Proven record of owning complex data platform deliveries and managing outcomes/SLAs in production.
• Hands-on semantic layer and BI expertise, including KPI/metric logic and consumption models.
• Experience designing data for AI/ML use cases, including feature/embedding strategies and knowledge graphs/ontologies.
• Depth in dimensional modeling (star/snowflake) and Data Vault 2.0 (plus SCDs and schema evolution/versioning).
• Strong experience with one or more cloud data platforms (BigQuery, Snowflake, Redshift, Synapse/Databricks SQL).
• Experience with streaming systems (Kafka/Pub/Sub/Kinesis and Spark/Flink) and event schema management (Avro/Protobuf).
