Principal Database Engineer

Overview

Lead database engineering and Cloud Platform Support as the principal technical authority for enterprise database reliability, performance, observability, and critical incident resolution.

What you'll do

• Serve as the Tier-3 database escalation SME for SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Linux, and cloud-native databases.
• Lead Sev-1/Sev-2 incident triage, query tuning, index restructuring, and system recovery.
• Build troubleshooting runbooks, diagnostic playbooks, and self-service support tools.
• Design observability, telemetry, alerting, and database health-score standards across AWS and GCP.
• Drive automation, auto-remediation, post-incident reviews, and root-cause corrective actions.
• Lead business continuity, disaster recovery, failover, replication, and point-in-time recovery validation.
• Govern operational readiness for migrations from SQL Server to PostgreSQL and cloud-native databases.

What you'll need

• 10+ years supporting and tuning enterprise relational databases in mission-critical 24/7 environments.
• 4+ years operating enterprise databases in public clouds using Infrastructure as Code and CI/CD.
• Expertise in Microsoft SQL Server internals and strong PostgreSQL, Linux, and cloud database experience.
• Experience with RCA, technical post-mortems, remediation, and MTTR reduction.
• Experience with Dynatrace, Datadog, Prometheus, Grafana, or comparable observability tools.
• Strong Python, PowerShell, Bash, and SQL scripting skills.
• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical field or equivalent education, certifications, and experience.

Nice to have

• Experience with SaaS, healthcare, regulated environments, distributed microservices, or Kubernetes.
• Relevant Azure, AWS, Google Cloud, Kubernetes, Terraform, ITIL, or SRE certifications.
