Manager, People Systems Engineering (Remote Eligible)

Overview

Lead the engineering team responsible for Smartsheet’s People technology ecosystem and define its long-term technical strategy across Workday, connected platforms, integrations, data, automation, and AI.

What you'll do

• Own the technical strategy and architecture for the People technology ecosystem.
• Lead, coach, recruit, and develop the People Systems Engineering team.
• Define architectural boundaries across Workday, SaaS platforms, APIs, integrations, automation, and custom software.
• Develop strategies for People data, automation, AI, testing, observability, and software engineering practices.
• Partner with Product, Data, Identity, Security, and other engineering teams on enterprise architecture.
• Establish technical standards, architecture reviews, engineering metrics, and modernization priorities.
• Communicate technical strategy, risks, tradeoffs, and investment needs to stakeholders and senior leadership.

What you'll need

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 8+ years of experience across enterprise application engineering, software engineering, HR technology, systems architecture, or related disciplines.
• 2+ years managing or formally leading technical teams.
• Hands-on technical understanding of Workday architecture, data, security, business processes, integrations, reporting, and extensibility.
• Experience defining technical strategy or architecture and evolving enterprise data architecture.
• Experience with software engineering practices, testing automation, CI/CD, observability, or release engineering.
• Understanding of AI capabilities and practical applications of agents, LLMs, and intelligent automation.

Nice to have

• Experience with Docebo, Greenhouse, or similar People platforms.
• Experience with Workday Studio, Workday Extend, Workday APIs, cloud platforms, event-driven architectures, AI platforms, or modern automation frameworks.

• Remote eligible, with teleworking from any registered location in the United States where permitted.
• Full-time employee benefits and incentive opportunity are stated.
• Base salary: $112,000–$210,000 USD yearly.
