Principal Database Performance Engineer - Core Engineering (C++)

Overview

Principal Database Performance Engineer for ClickHouse’s core engineering/performance team, focused on improving the performance and scalability of a high-performance analytics database.

What you'll do

• Identify performance and scalability opportunities in customer or benchmark workloads.
• Architect and implement optimized algorithms and data structures across core query operators.
• Drive a performance roadmap for latency, throughput, memory efficiency, and hardware utilization.
• Participate in development, testing, and safe production rollout of a high-performance database system.
• Represent the company externally via presentations, blog posts, and community contributions.
• Mentor and support junior engineers.

What you'll need

• 5+ years of experience in database performance engineering and distributed systems.
• Master’s or PhD in databases or a related field.
• Strong fluency in C++ with performance-critical software or systems programming background.
• Track record of driving complex performance improvements end-to-end.
• Deep understanding of data structures and algorithms.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills.
