Overview
As a Principal Engineer at director level, you will design and engineer software with customer or user experience as the primary objective. You will work with architects to define major components of the business-wide target architecture and roadmap, while providing technical leadership across complex engineering assignments.
What you'll do
- Create customer outcomes through engineering, innovative solutions to existing and new challenges, and technology designs that are innovative, customer centric, high performance, secure and robust.
- Lead significant, complex and technically challenging assignments.
- Coordinate multiple feature teams and ensure their technical journeys support realisation of targets.
- Deliver the values of relevant metrics published to investors.
- Define, create and provide oversight and governance of engineering and design solutions focused on end-to-end automation, simplification, resilience, security, performance, scalability and reusability.
- Work within a platform or feature team with software engineers to design and engineer complex software, scripts and tools that enable delivery of bank platforms, applications and services.
- Act as a point of contact for solution design considerations.
- Define and develop architecture models and roadmaps of application and software components to meet business and technical requirements.
- Drive common usability across products and domains.
- Influence the development of strategies and architecture at domain and enterprise levels.
- Identify transformational opportunities for the businesses and technology areas.
What you'll need
- Significant experience in software engineering, software or database design and architecture.
- Experience developing software within a DevOps and Agile framework.
- Expert understanding of the latest market trends, technologies and tools.
- Significant and demonstrable experience implementing programming best practice, especially around scalability, automation, virtualisation, optimisation, availability and performance.
- A strong background in AWS, microservices, event driven architecture and workflow management.
- Significant and demonstrable experience of test-driven development and using automated test frameworks, mocking and stubbing and unit testing tools.
- A background in designing or implementing APIs.
- Ability to rapidly and effectively understand and translate product and business requirements into technical solutions.
- A background of working with code repositories, bug tracking tools and wikis.
