Principal Engineer, Core Java

Overview

Principal Engineer role designing and engineering software with the customer or user experience as the primary objective, contributing to the architecture, design and engineering centre of excellence at vice president level.

What you'll do

• Create great customer outcomes via engineering and innovative solutions to existing and new challenges, with technology designs that are innovative, customer centric, high performance, secure and robust.
• Work with software engineers in the production and prototyping of innovative ideas, engaging with domain and enterprise architects to validate and leverage these in wider contexts.
• Design and develop software with a focus on automation of build, test and deployment activities, while developing the discipline of software engineering across the business.
• Define, create and provide oversight and governance of engineering and design solutions with a focus on end-to-end automation, simplification, resilience, security, performance, scalability and reusability.
• Work within a platform or feature team to design and engineer complex software, scripts and tools to enable delivery of bank platforms, applications and services, acting as a point of contact for solution design considerations.
• Define and develop architecture models and roadmaps of application and software components to meet business and technical requirements, driving common usability across products and domains.
• Design, produce, test and implement working code, applying Agile methods and DevOps techniques to software development.

What you'll need

• Significant experience in software engineering, software or database design and architecture.
• Experience of developing software within a DevOps and Agile framework.
• Expert understanding of the latest market trends, technologies and tools.
• Significant and demonstrable experience of implementing programming best practice, especially around scalability, automation, virtualisation, optimisation, availability and performance.
• At least 12 years of experience in Core Java with hands-on experience in multithreading.
• Strong experience in low-latency system design and development.
• Strong experience with Microservices architecture.
• Experience in the FX domain.
• Significant and demonstrable experience of test-driven development and using automated test frameworks, mocking and stubbing and unit testing tools.

• Experience in Java full-stack development.
• Experience with PostgreSQL.
