Principal Engineer/Senior Staff Engineer- CPU Software & Hardware Co-Design Engineer (ML Systems)

Overview

Develop CPU software and hardware co-design insights for machine learning systems on next-generation QMX architectures. The role spans ML workload characterization, simulation, kernel optimization, and architectural feedback.

What you'll do

• Identify and characterize ML workloads for CPU-centric execution.
• Generate execution traces using QEMU or equivalent simulators.
• Analyze CPU, memory, cache, and instruction bottlenecks.
• Optimize hotspots through kernel, algorithmic, data-layout, and memory improvements.
• Collaborate with CPU architecture and design teams on hardware enhancements.
• Develop optimized ML kernels and libraries for QMX, including GEMM, convolution, and attention.
• Benchmark CPU-based ML performance and track improvements across hardware generations.

What you'll need

• 8+ years of related experience with a bachelor's degree, 7+ with a master's, or 6+ with a PhD.
• 4+ years of experience with a programming language such as C, C++, Java, or Python.
• Strong background in computer architecture or systems programming.
• Strong background in machine learning fundamentals.
• Proficiency in C/C++.
• Experience with performance profiling, benchmarking, and optimization.

Nice to have

• Experience with QEMU or equivalent simulators.
• Experience developing ML kernels such as GEMM, convolution, or attention.
• Knowledge of CPU pipelines, caching, and SIMD or vector extensions.
• Familiarity with ML frameworks and inference stacks.
• Experience with intrinsics, assembly, memory tuning, or cache tuning.
