Overview
Principal Software Engineer for Palo Alto Networks’ Wildfire Infrastructure team, focused on the WF500 appliance platform and appliance-to-cloud security workflows.
What you'll do
- Drive the technical roadmap, system architecture, and core execution for the WF500 appliance platform.
- Define next-generation, high-volume, low-latency architecture for appliance-to-cloud security workflows.
- Lead architectural design and evolution of the WF500 appliance software stack for throughput and sub-second execution.
- Architect and optimize the underlying Linux base platform, including kernel tuning, interfaces, and daemon management.
- Define low-latency, high-concurrency messaging and caching strategies using Kafka, RabbitMQ, and Redis.
- Act as final escalation for diagnosing difficult system bugs, memory leaks, race conditions, and performance bottlenecks.
- Mentor Senior/Staff engineers through design reviews and technical best practices.
What you'll need
- 10 to 15+ years of hands-on experience architecting and scaling system software, embedded Linux platforms, or security/network appliances.
- Mastery in Python and Go, with strong hands-on experience in C for low-level systems and platform engineering.
- Deep expertise in Linux platform internals including memory management, process scheduling, system calls, and network stack tuning.
- Experience building high-throughput, event-driven architectures with Kafka, RabbitMQ, and Redis.
- Experience running containerized microservices (Kubernetes/Docker) on-premise or on bare-metal hardware.
- Advanced ability to dissect, debug, and resolve performance bottlenecks, race conditions, and failures in complex distributed environments.
- Advanced knowledge of cloud computing architecture (AWS/GCP/OCI/Azure) and Zero Trust security frameworks.
