Senior Software Engineer - Kubernetes & ServiceMesh

Overview

Senior Software Engineer on Roku’s Cloud Platform team, building and deploying a cloud-agnostic platform that powers Kubernetes and service mesh at scale.

What you'll do

• Architect, design, and deploy Roku’s next-generation cloud platform and service mesh.
• Build and own compute solutions using Docker, Kubernetes, Istio/Envoy, Terraform, and scripting.
• Research and implement new technologies to improve scalability, reliability, and developer experience.
• Integrate security best practices into infrastructure design and automation.
• Build tooling to visualize inefficiencies and optimize costs across shared-tenancy clusters.
• Collaborate on migrating workloads to Kubernetes and Istio and scale observability (monitoring and logging).
• Apply SRE principles for high availability and streamline onboarding workflows, and mentor team members.

What you'll need

• 8+ years of relevant experience or equivalent.
• Hands-on cloud experience in architecting and managing large-scale systems (AWS preferred; GCP/Azure plus).
• Deep knowledge of Kubernetes (EKS, GKE, AKS, or similar) and service mesh technologies.
• Proficiency in Go (or another systems language) and Python (or another scripting language).
• Experience designing infrastructure and building automation tools with internal collaboration.
• Experience building CI/CD pipelines and following modern deployment practices.
• Familiarity with observability tools (Prometheus, Thanos, Loki, Grafana, or similar).

• Hybrid working: generally in-office Monday–Thursday, with Fridays generally flexible for remote work.
