Principal Software Engineer, AI Email App

Overview

Principal Software Engineer (AI Email App) owns the engineering layer that turns AI capabilities into a reliable product.

What you'll do

• Own application engineering strategy and execution across backend, mobile, and desktop.
• Design reliable AI-powered workflow systems (state, orchestration, tool use, retries, fallbacks).
• Build APIs and abstractions connecting AI systems to product experiences.
• Lead a small team of senior engineers through design reviews, code reviews, and mentorship.
• Make trade-offs across latency, reliability, cost, security, and user experience.
• Set up production foundations including observability, monitoring, testing, and operational excellence.
• Partner with ML leadership to ship robust product experiences.

What you'll need

• Significant experience leading application or product engineering for complex systems.
• Hands-on experience building and shipping production backend systems.
• Experience building AI-powered products or systems with modern ML/LLM integrations.
• Technical judgment to make decisions with incomplete information.
• Comfort working across backend and client platforms with deep expertise in at least one.
• Bias toward ownership, shipping, and learning from real-world usage.
• High standards for code quality, reliability, and engineering fundamentals.
