Job description

Overview

Hands-on senior technical leader responsible for the stability, reliability, performance, and supportability of Cubic's production systems, leading diagnosis and resolution of the most complex defects, configuration problems, and data anomalies across live, interconnected environments.

What you'll do

  • Understand the enterprise architecture end to end and own troubleshooting across multiple interconnected and complex software systems.
  • Lead the investigation and resolution of high-impact software defects, configuration issues, integration failures, and data anomalies for complex issues.
  • Provide technical direction during the most complex cross-system production incidents, coordinating diagnosis across application, integration, database, messaging, and external interface layers.
  • Perform deep-dive root cause and pattern analysis, converting findings into permanent corrective actions, preventive controls, and prioritized engineering improvements.
  • Maintain system stability through proactive monitoring, configuration management, capacity awareness, and early identification of operational risks.
  • Define reusable diagnostic approaches and troubleshooting standards that improve resolution quality, reduce mean time to restore, and strengthen support-team effectiveness.
  • Own the technical baseline for system architecture, design, configuration, and operational supportability across the full system lifecycle.
  • Champion automation and observability improvements that reduce manual intervention, strengthen reliability, and improve operational efficiency.
  • Mentor Senior Engineers and support teams, establishing engineering standards, reusable practices, and consistent approaches to complex troubleshooting and technical decision-making.
  • Bridge Production Operations, Systems Engineering, Development, and business or program teams by translating operational challenges into clear engineering priorities and scalable technical solutions.
  • Own the technical relationship with program teams and ensure systems meet agreed performance, availability, reliability, and supportability targets in accordance with service-level commitments.
  • Drive cross-program operational maturity through standardization, automation, observability, reliability engineering, and measurable continuous-improvement initiatives.
  • Develop, review, and maintain high-quality operational documentation, including runbooks, configuration guides, architectural support views, known-error records, and incident-response procedures.
  • Lead post-incident reviews and ensure corrective actions address both immediate causes and broader systemic risks.
  • Use incident trends, recurring failure patterns, service metrics, and operational data to prioritize engineering investments and reduce technical and operational risk.
  • Influence production-readiness criteria and operational acceptance for new solutions, releases, architectural changes, and major configuration updates.
  • Interface with customers, partners, and vendors to resolve escalated issues, communicate technical risk, and align on sustainable solutions.
  • Promote knowledge reuse and operational readiness by strengthening technical documentation, knowledge transfer, and support-team capability.

What you'll need

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • 10+ years of experience in systems engineering, production engineering, site reliability, or technical operations, with demonstrated ownership of complex, business-critical production environments.
  • Demonstrated experience working in a Technical Business Analyst function, with exposure to analyzing end-to-end business processes and their underlying applications, system components, integrations, and data flows to identify gaps, dependencies, risks, and opportunities for operational and technical improvement.
  • Advanced expertise in diagnosing and resolving complex software, infrastructure, integration, configuration, messaging, data, and performance issues in live environments.
  • Hands-on experience with incidents, problem, change, and release management processes in a 24x7 production environment.
  • Experience with enterprise monitoring, observability, log analysis, alerting, performance tuning, and service-health analysis.
  • Working knowledge of configuration management practices and distributed messaging technologies such as Kafka.
  • Strong hands-on capability with SQL for production diagnostics, data validation, and issue analysis.
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity, assess technical risk, establish priorities, and create clarity for technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience participating in rotational on-call or shift-based support for mission-critical production services.
  • Proven ability to lead customer or client technical discussions, incident reviews, risk conversations, and solution-alignment sessions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical topics to engineering, program, operational, and leadership audiences.

Nice to have

  • Experience in transportation, finance, smart mobility, or another regulated and mission-critical industry.
  • Experience with high-availability, fault-tolerance, distributed, and event-driven architectures.
  • Experience leading reliability engineering, observability, automation, production modernization, or operational maturity initiatives across large-scale systems.
  • Experience working across technology ecosystems in which applications, infrastructure, integrations, field devices, back-office platforms, and operational processes collectively affect customer-facing services.
  • Knowledge of security, resilience, disaster recovery, capacity planning, and production-readiness practices for enterprise systems.
  • Relevant professional certifications in cloud technologies, IT service management, database technologies, systems engineering.
