Overview
Protection and Controls Engineer for grid modernization projects within AECOM’s Energy Engineering Center of Excellence.
What you'll do
- Perform electrical engineering design work for assigned projects.
- Conduct power system studies and coordinate system protection settings.
- Prepare basis of design documentation for protection settings and relay configurations.
- Review peers’ engineering work and perform quality control on design calculations or drawings.
- Support projects during construction, start-up, and commissioning.
- Attend client meetings and provide technical input as lead engineer or technical advisor.
What you'll need
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
- 6 years of relevant experience (or demonstrated equivalency).
- 6 years of relevant protection and controls experience in electrical engineering.
- Understanding and experience in electrical engineering design and technology principles.
- Ability to communicate effectively with project team members and customers.
- Ability to work successfully in a team environment with attention to detail.
Nice to have
- Professional Engineering licensure.
- 8+ years of experience with 2+ years as a project lead.
- Knowledge of FERC and NERC requirements.
- Experience with IEC61850.
- Power systems analysis software experience (SKM, EasyPower, ETAP).
- Relay coordination using ASPEN OneLiner and development of native relay setting files.
- Distribution automation experience.
- Experience working in collaborative 3D model environments (e.g., Navisworks).
Details
- Work mode: remote located in the U.S. or hybrid out of AECOM U.S. offices.
- Occasional travel to client and/or project sites for data gathering and field walks.
- No relocation assistance available.
- No sponsorship for US employment authorization available.
- In-person Day 1 onboarding at an AECOM office location required.
- Position intended to be filled no sooner than March 29, 2027.
