Overview
Principal Data Center Architect (CSA) who is technical owner for the civil, structural, and architectural design of Anthropic’s AI compute facilities.
What you'll do
- Own civil, structural, and architectural reference design standards across the data center portfolio.
- Lead front-end test fits and site feasibility studies to guide site selection and structural approaches.
- Review and approve CSA deliverables from design-build partners and AE firms through SD/DD/CD/IFC stages.
- Integrate CSA design with mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and IT infrastructure teams.
- Drive site and campus planning to maximize compute density and align layout with IT and operational requirements.
- Provide technical oversight during construction and support commissioning activities.
- Define qualification/performance standards for design partners, structural subconsultants, and modular/prefabrication vendors.
What you'll need
- 10+ years delivering mission-critical facility infrastructure, with at least 6 years in hyperscale or large-scale data center CSA design.
- Deep expertise in civil site development, structural design, and architectural programming for industrial or mission-critical facilities.
- Experience as an owner's engineer/lead technical authority setting standards and approving deliverables.
- Proficiency with building codes and standards including IBC, IFC, ASCE 7, ACI 318, AISC, FM Global, and local requirements.
- Experience accommodating direct liquid-cooling system structures/architecture plus overhead busway and dense rack deployments.
- Ability to evaluate/red-line civil site plans, structural calculations, and architectural construction documents.
- Ability to coordinate across MEP and IT infrastructure teams in a fast-paced, multi-project environment.
Details
- Annual compensation range: $320,000–$405,000 USD.
- Location-based hybrid policy: in one of the offices at least 25% of the time.
- Travel to project sites globally for design reviews, construction audits, and commissioning (up to 40%).
