Data Center Mechanical Engineer

Overview

Senior individual contributor Data Center Mechanical Engineer leading mechanical design direction and oversight for cooling and related infrastructure across Anthropic’s U.S. portfolio.

What you'll do

• Drive and review mechanical design concepts for data center cooling plants and related systems.
• Review and direct external engineering drawings, specifications, and construction documentation.
• Evaluate design submittals and respond to RFIs with technical direction.
• Identify and resolve design conflicts across mechanical, electrical, and controls disciplines.
• Lead prefabrication and modular mechanical delivery strategy to accelerate deployment.
• Serve as primary mechanical contact for external developers, design engineers, and construction partners.
• Monitor installation, conduct site visits, and support mechanical testing and commissioning.

What you'll need

• 10+ years of experience designing building mechanical systems for data centers or mission-critical facilities.
• Deep familiarity with U.S. mechanical, plumbing, and fire codes and standards (e.g., IMC, IPC, IECC, IBC, NFPA 13, ASME B31).
• Knowledge of chilled-water systems and liquid cooling (direct-to-chip and CDUs), including redundant piping configurations.
• Hands-on experience with prefabricated and modular mechanical infrastructure.
• Experience driving and reviewing external consultant mechanical design work and marking up construction drawings.
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Ability to travel up to ~30% to data center sites across the region.
