Overview
Senior engineer providing deep technical ownership for QNX platform software used in automotive systems, covering platform bring-up, BSP and HLOS stability, virtualization, power and performance integration, defect resolution, and customer-facing technical execution.
What you'll do
- Own technical execution for QNX platform domains including BSP, boot, kernel and system services, memory, interrupts, I/O, storage, networking, virtualization, power management, suspend/resume, and platform stability.
- Lead platform bring-up, integration, configuration, qualification, and release activities across automotive SoC and board platforms.
- Analyze complex failures involving boot, reset, suspend/resume, performance, memory, resource ownership, inter-process communication, and multi-VM or multi-domain interactions.
- Drive root-cause analysis using logs, traces, dumps, instrumentation, system behavior, and reproducible test cases; document technical conclusions and corrective actions.
- Review architecture, design, code, patches, test plans, and release criteria for robustness, maintainability, safety, security, and performance.
- Act as a technical point of contact for QNX platform issues, escalations, integration blockers, and stability risks.
- Translate system-level customer symptoms into actionable engineering problem statements, reproduce issues, identify ownership, and coordinate closure across teams.
- Lead triage and prioritization of critical blockers, including clear impact assessment, containment, action plans, and status communication.
- Partner with customers, silicon/platform teams, QNX teams, and internal software organizations while maintaining technical clarity and accountability.
- Support release readiness and production milestones by tracking risks, validation gaps, regressions, and dependency closure.
- Lead multi-domain investigations and drive alignment when issues span BSP, HLOS, hypervisor, firmware, hardware, power, security, or application layers.
- Mentor engineers in debugging methodology, QNX platform architecture, issue analysis, code quality, and customer-oriented execution.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, troubleshooting guides, knowledge articles, architecture notes, and reusable analysis practices.
- Participate in technical reviews, defect reviews, readiness assessments, and continuous-improvement activities.
- Identify recurring failure patterns and drive preventive actions in design, testing, automation, integration, and development processes.
What you'll need
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Typically 6+ years of relevant embedded software, operating-system, BSP, platform, or automotive systems experience.
- Strong hands-on experience with QNX Neutrino or comparable real-time operating-system concepts and platform integration.
- Solid understanding of embedded system architecture: boot flow, BSP components, device drivers, kernel services, interrupts, memory management, scheduling, IPC, synchronization, and resource management.
- Experience debugging complex system failures using logs, traces, crash dumps, instrumentation, debuggers, and hardware/software observability mechanisms.
- Strong C and C++ programming skills, with ability to read, modify, review, and troubleshoot low-level system software.
- Working knowledge of ARM-based SoC systems, firmware interactions, device trees or equivalent hardware description mechanisms, and board-level integration.
- Experience with software development life cycle, code review, configuration management, defect tracking, regression testing, and release qualification.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical issues to both engineering and non-engineering stakeholders.
- Minimum: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 2+ years of Software Applications Engineering, Software Development experience, or related work experience, OR Master's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 1+ year of Software Applications Engineering, Software Development experience, or related work experience, OR PhD in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field.
- 1+ year of any combination of academic and/or work experience with Programming Language such as C, C++, Java, Python, etc.
- 1+ year of any combination of academic and/or work experience with debugging techniques.
Nice to have
- Experience with automotive platforms, vehicle compute systems, domain controllers, or production embedded products.
- Experience with QNX Hypervisor or equivalent virtualization technologies, including VM configuration, inter-domain communication, device assignment, and resource isolation.
- Knowledge of platform power management, low-power states, suspend-to-RAM, wake sources, thermal behavior, performance optimization, and power-aware debugging.
