Overview
SMT Process Engineer responsible for developing and optimizing SMT machine programs, process standards, and quality/improvement activities across SMT equipment.
What you'll do
- Develop, validate, and release machine programs for SPP, SPI, Pick & Place, Reflow Oven, and AOI.
- Optimize stencil, printing, placement, thermal profile, and inspection parameters to meet process capability targets.
- Analyze and reduce cycle time, changeover time, and setup losses via continuous improvement.
- Define and maintain SOPs, work instructions, control plans, and SMT process standards with control limits.
- Monitor compliance through audits and process confirmations, and update documentation based on changes and lessons learned.
- Lead defect reduction using SPI/AOI analysis and structured problem-solving (8D, 5 Why, Fishbone, PFMEA).
- Support NPI by reviewing Gerber/BOM/Pick & Place data, running DFM/DFA, and executing pilot builds.
What you'll need
- 8 years of SMT manufacturing experience (Diploma).
- 6 years of SMT manufacturing experience (BE/B Tech) with exposure to SMT operations and process engineering.
- Experience with solder paste deposition quality analysis using SPI data.
- Experience validating solder joint quality through AOI and defect trend monitoring.
- Knowledge of setting and monitoring SMT control limits (paste height/volume/offset, placement accuracy, oven profile, AOI criteria).
- Ability to train operators on SPP, SPI, Pick & Place, Reflow, and AOI operations.
- HSE knowledge for safe working conditions, HIRA/risk assessments, and safe handling of solder paste/chemicals/ESD-sensitive components.
