Overview
Regional Research Economist (Economic Research) working on measuring and understanding AI’s effects on the economy and developing research-driven policy insights.
What you'll do
- Collaborate with governments, academia, industry, and civil society in your region to study AI’s economic effects.
- Contribute to the development of the Anthropic Economic Index and expand it for regionally relevant insights.
- Establish methodologies to measure AI usage, diffusion, and impact across the economy.
- Develop empirical research on AI’s economic effects across multiple topics (labor markets, productivity, inequality, and more).
- Work with regional partners to translate research outputs into policy recommendations.
- Improve measurement infrastructure and data collection by working cross-functionally with technical teams.
- Support external engagement via research publications, policy briefs, and presentations.
What you'll need
- PhD in Economics.
- Strong empirical research track record, including work using novel data sources and theory or frontier methods.
- Experience in and relevant relationships across the region.
- Experience relevant to studying AI’s impact on the economy (labor market analysis, task-based technological transformation, large-scale data/econometrics, LLMs for social science, policy-relevant economic research, experimental/quasi-experimental methods, macroeconomic modeling/time series forecasting, and/or simulation).
- Technical proficiency in Python, R, SQL, or similar tools for large-scale data analysis.
- Demonstrated ability to lead research projects and communicate findings to diverse audiences.
- Comfort working with AI systems and thinking critically about their capabilities and limitations.
