SAP Basis SME & Engineering Manager

Overview

Lead SAP Basis engineering and subject-matter expertise for Unilever's SAP landscape, driving solution design, S/4HANA implementation, upgrades and migrations in alignment with Enterprise Architecture.

What you'll do

• Understand business project requirements, evaluate the latest SAP product offerings and provide SAP solution design as per Unilever standards.
• Guide technical teams on green/brown field implementation and system upgrades so environments remain current and supportable.
• Act as SAP Technology/Engineering SME in the SAP Technical Services team, with hands-on execution of SAP installs, upgrades, migrations and configuration or maintenance activities.
• Adopt Agentic AI skills and tools as required on demand.
• Design and deliver cost-effective, scalable, secure and resilient SAP solutions hosted across Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
• Define, document and maintain SAP capability frameworks, architecture guidelines, design standards, reference architectures and technical patterns.
• Create, validate and govern build sheets to ensure deployment readiness and configuration accuracy.
• Participate in Solution Design Review Boards, providing SAP technology leadership, architectural recommendations, risk assessments and solution approval support.
• Create, review and govern Solution Requirement Documents (SRD) and Migration Requirement Documents (MRD) with traceability to technical implementation.
• Develop architecture blueprints, design patterns, integration standards, security guidelines and governance frameworks for SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP).
• Review, enhance and update existing SAP and BTP architecture standards, design artifacts and technical governance documentation.
• Collaborate with business stakeholders, delivery teams, cloud providers and external partners to drive architecture excellence and operational efficiency.
• Provide architectural leadership for SAP transformation initiatives, optimizing for performance, availability, security, scalability, compliance and cost.
• Champion SAP best practices, cloud adoption strategies, automation and continuous improvement.
• Identify, assess and manage risks to project success; define, document and safely execute technical projects; prepare and maintain realistic technical project and quality plans and report to stakeholders.
• Coordinate with cloud platform teams and manage cloud budgeting and cost-optimized pay options for projects.
• Drive multiple initiatives with vendor teams alongside day-to-day operations, generating value and savings from vendor partners.

What you'll need

• Technical knowledge of SAP Basis from an implementation or consulting background, with an engineering mind-set.
• SAP Basis and infrastructure knowledge.
• Knowledge of Unix: SUSE Linux / Linux / HANA / DB2 and Oracle for SAP applications.
• Broad understanding of SAP products in a global environment and of global SAP infrastructure requirements, including storage, network, servers, tooling, capacity management and planning.
• Broad knowledge of SAP landscape management (system refreshes and release cycles) and associated technologies or applications.
• Strong SAP Basis skills and experience, including hands-on experience with SAP installations, upgrades and migrations.
• Strong understanding of ITIL service management framework.
• Track record of IT operational management and/or exposure to SAP builds, upgrades and migrations delivered to agreed timescales.
• Demonstrated experience designing and delivering SAP solutions hosted across Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
• Analytical, troubleshooting and problem-ownership skills, with a design- and documentation-focused, disciplined approach.
• Ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels and present recommendations clearly.
• Ability to manage and deliver the highest level of service with in-house teams and strategic partners.
