Security Research Engineer

Overview

Security Research Engineer to research, develop, and deliver vulnerability detection libraries for VMDR scanning products.

What you'll do

• Research, design, and develop new vulnerability detection libraries (signatures) or enhance existing ones.
• Build detection logic for databases, applications, operating systems, TCP/IP protocols, and network devices.
• Continuously research emerging technologies to extend vulnerability detection coverage.
• Automate recurring research, development, and validation tasks.
• Use AI/ML techniques to accelerate research and improve detection outcomes where valuable.
• Troubleshoot and resolve customer issues such as false positives/negatives with Customer Support and Research teams.

What you'll need

• 4+ years of experience in network and systems security.
• Deep understanding of TCP/IP, HTTP, FTP, SSH, and SSL/TLS.
• Strong knowledge of common security vulnerabilities and mitigation techniques.
• Hands-on experience with Python and Bash scripting.
• Hands-on experience with containers and orchestration tools (Docker, Kubernetes).
• System administration experience on Windows or Unix/Linux platforms.

Nice to have

• Exposure to applying AI/ML to security problems, including machine learning for detection/classification/anomaly detection or using LLMs for automation.
• Knowledge of Lua (preferred) or Java.
• Experience with virtualization platforms like VMWare, VirtualBox, or XEN.
• Understanding of cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Oracle Cloud.
• Experience using or developing vulnerability scanners and IDS/IPS tools.
• Industry certifications including OSCP, CISSP, and GIAC.
