Senior Data Engineer

Overview

Senior Data Engineer on Roku’s Content Data Engineering team, building scalable data products and pipelines to power content-experience decision-making.

What you'll do

• Build scalable, available, fault-tolerant distributed data processing systems for batch and streaming.
• Quality-check and refine datasets into simplified data models for self-service.
• Develop resilient data pipelines that optimize for data quality.
• Own data mapping, business logic, transformations, and data quality.
• Troubleshoot low-level systems, measure performance, and optimize on large production clusters.
• Participate in architecture discussions and help shape product roadmap.
• Maintain existing platforms and evolve to newer technology stacks and architectures.

What you'll need

• Extensive SQL experience.
• Proficiency in at least one scripting language; Python is preferred.
• Big data experience with Hadoop (HDFS, YARN, MapReduce), Hive, Kafka, Spark, Airflow, and Presto/Trino.
• Deep expertise in Apache Spark, including performance tuning and scalable batch/streaming pipeline development.
• Experience with data modeling across conceptual, logical, and physical models.
• 8+ years of professional experience as a data engineer.
• BS in Computer Science; MS in Computer Science preferred.
