Overview
Senior Engineer - Full Stack Developer role supporting Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) used by Pharmaceutical Development within Global Product Development & Supply at Bristol Myers Squibb.
What you'll do
- Design, develop, deploy and provide lifecycle support for custom and COTS applications across the EMES scope.
- Use Claude and GitHub Copilot as a core part of day-to-day engineering, retaining full ownership of code quality, security, validation and maintainability.
- Build reusable AI solutions, agents and workflow automations that remove repetitive effort from the MES development and support lifecycle (code and test generation, document authoring, defect triage, validation deliverables).
- Drive AI adoption across the MES team and partner teams, running technical workshops and office hours, mentoring engineers on prompting and AI best practices, and contributing to the Innovation/AI Community of Practice.
- Design, build and migrate workloads on AWS in support of cloud migration and next-generation manufacturing systems.
- Evaluate emerging AI and cloud technologies, develop proofs of concept, and measure adoption and productivity improvements against agreed metrics.
- Deliver project implementations and day-to-day operational support within a validated, GxP-regulated environment, including the associated CSV deliverables.
- Collaborate directly with business clients, IT Business Partners, site teams and other IT functions, and act as a functional mentor to more junior engineers.
What you'll need
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in computer science, Information Technology, Engineering, AI/Machine Learning or a related field, with 4-6 years of hands-on software engineering experience.
- 4+ years building web applications using JavaScript/TypeScript with React and Node.js, plus Python for automation and AI-enabled services.
- Demonstrable hands-on use of Claude (including Claude Code), GitHub Copilot or comparable assistants to build enterprise-grade production software, including prompt and context engineering, AI-assisted refactoring, test generation and documentation.
- Experience building reusable AI assets (prompt libraries, agents, workflow automations, MCP-based integrations) and helping engineering teams adopt them.
- 3+ years designing and deploying solutions using services such as EC2, ECS/EKS, Lambda, S3, RDS, API Gateway, IAM and CloudWatch, with infrastructure-as-code and cloud migration experience.
- Strong REST API design and system-to-system integration experience.
- 4+ years in RDBMS/RDS such as SQL Server, including data modelling and query tuning.
- SDLC, Agile, CI/CD and source control (GIT, GitHub, Azure DevOps), with experience managing deployments of varying complexity.
- Knowledge of computer systems validation (CSV), cGxP, GAMP 5, 21 CFR Part 11 and data integrity requirements.
- Excellent communication, technical mentoring and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to collaborate across multiple teams.
Nice to have
- Enterprise generative AI platforms (Claude for Enterprise, ChatGPT Enterprise, custom GPTs) and building Model Context Protocol (MCP) integrations to enterprise systems.
- Supporting technology adoption through training, office hours or communities of practice, including measuring adoption and productivity impact.
- Responsible AI, data privacy, information security and access management; automated testing and regression frameworks for validated systems.
- Experience in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, healthcare or another regulated industry.
- AWS Certified Developer or Microsoft/SQL Server certification(s).
