Job description

Overview

Lead Airbnb's technical brand and content function: run the Airbnb Tech Blog, build the public technical presence of engineers and the CTO, own distribution and external presence, and connect this work to hiring outcomes.

What you'll do

  • Run the Airbnb Tech Blog end to end: source topics from teams, coach engineer-authors, edit to a high bar, and move posts through legal, security and comms review without letting them stall.
  • Set and hold a publishing rhythm the organization can rely on.
  • Identify cross-team narratives and publish them as connected sets, while each domain keeps publishing in depth for its own specialists.
  • Help engineers and technical leaders develop public presence through bylines, talks, speaker coaching and a pipeline of new voices, including partnering closely with the CTO on his public technical presence.
  • Establish Airbnb's canonical home on an Airbnb-owned domain, stand up missing surfaces including video, and decide what the social channels are for.
  • Set conference and event strategy (where to speak, sponsor and skip) and manage what Airbnb hosts itself.
  • Own academic collaborations and technical media relationships, and the budget and vendors behind them.
  • Steward Airbnb's open source presence, ensuring public claims are accurate and that projects carrying the Airbnb name are actively maintained and reflect how Airbnb wants to be seen.
  • Partner with Talent Acquisition to connect this work to hiring outcomes, including inbound share of the senior pipeline and offer acceptance at staff level and above in ML and infrastructure, and be honest about what is and isn't attributable.

What you'll need

  • Substantial experience in technical content, developer relations, engineering communications or technical editorial, including time working directly with engineers.
  • Technical fluency: can hold their own in a systems design conversation, read a design doc, and judge whether a draft post says anything real (production code not required).
  • Editorial judgment and hands-on craft: can edit an engineer's draft into something sharper without flattening their voice, and distinguish a post that teaches from one that announces.
  • Influence without authority: has built systems and incentives that got busy senior people to produce.
  • Program discipline: has owned events, budgets and vendors end to end.
  • Measurement literacy: connects brand work to funnel outcomes and is straight about the limits of attribution.
  • Judgment on risk: has navigated legal and security review and knows what shouldn't be published.

Nice to have

  • Experience migrating a technical publication between platforms, including SEO and redirect work.
  • Experience running or fixing an open source program.
  • Experience helping a senior executive build a public technical presence.
  • Familiarity with AI and ML engineering topics, and with academic or research communications.
  • Video or multi-format content experience.

Details

  • US Remote Eligible; the role may include occasional work at an Airbnb office or offsites, as agreed with the manager.
  • Must live in a state where Airbnb, Inc. has a registered entity (excluded states list applies).
  • Pay range $192,000 to $237,000 USD base; may also be eligible for bonus, equity, benefits and Employee Travel Credits.
