Overview
Senior Operations Research Engineer to design, build, maintain, and iterate optimization and AI/ML-driven products for container terminal operations.
What you'll do
- Lead design, implementation, and delivery of advanced optimization solutions for terminal operations (including container handling, yard positioning, vessel loading/unloading sequencing, and truck routing).
- Build operational tools for day-to-day terminal operations and strategic models for long-term planning and decision-making.
- Coach and mentor junior team members in optimization and operations research methodologies.
- Partner with stakeholders to incorporate terminal operational dynamics and business processes into products.
- Collaborate with product teams and stakeholders to communicate model rationale, results, and insights for rollout to production.
- Analyze data, measure delivered value, and continuously evaluate and improve models for effectiveness.
- Validate and iterate optimization solutions against discrete event simulation models of terminal operations.
What you'll need
- 5+ years of industry experience building and delivering optimization solutions.
- PhD or M.Sc. in Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Machine Learning, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, or related algorithms/data field.
- Depth in optimization modeling (LP, MILP, constraint programming, and/or metaheuristics) for scheduling, sequencing, routing, bin packing, and resource allocation.
- Fluency implementing models in Python using open-source and commercial solvers (PuLP, OR-Tools/CP-SAT, HiGHS, Gurobi).
- Experience developing optimization models for stochastic operational environments and evaluating them against simulation.
- Ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions for complex operational systems.
- Track record of delivering production-quality Python.
