Senior Principal Systems Engineer

Overview

Own end-to-end systems design for humanoid robot applications, integrating software, AI, and hardware while guiding robotics engineers and AI/ML scientists.

What you'll do

• Design scalable, modular software architectures for humanoid robots.
• Select robotics frameworks and developer SDKs.
• Optimize latency, compute, thermal, battery, and power constraints with hardware teams.
• Drive reusable platform strategies across different robot forms.
• Define integration of foundation models, agentic systems, memory, multimodal AI, and reasoning engines.
• Lead projects from proof of concept through production-ready deployments.
• Ensure reliability, observability, maintainability, security, and operational readiness.

What you'll need

• 8+ years of experience in robotics, autonomous systems, industrial automation, physical AI, or complex cyber-physical environments.
• Understanding of ROS 2, SLAM, Nav2, MoveIt2, perception, sensor fusion, DDS, and distributed robotics architectures.
• Experience designing cyber-physical systems under compute, thermal, battery, network, and fail-safe constraints.
• Advanced C++ 17/20 knowledge.
• Expertise in Python architectural design.
• Mastery of Linux, containerized deployments, and embedded computing platforms.
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant engineering or computer science discipline.

Nice to have

• Experience with PREEMPT_RT, Zephyr, FreeRTOS, robotics simulation tools, safety standards, foundation models, or edge AI.
• Experience leading technical projects or small cross-functional teams.

• Remote role in the California Bay Area.
• Salary: $192,500–$290,000 USD annually.
