Overview

Senior Software Development Engineer role at Clearwater Analytics, working on quality software for investment reporting, accounting, and analytics, in an agile environment.

What you'll do

• Participate in all phases of the software development lifecycle, including design, implementation, testing and deployment of quality software.
• Develop quality software used by some of the world's largest technology firms, fixed income asset managers, and custodian banks.
• Participate in Agile meetings to contribute to development strategies and product roadmap.
• Own critical processes that are highly available and scalable.
• Produce feature enhancements and react quickly to emerging technologies.
• Encourage collaboration, stimulate creativity, and help mentor entry-level developers.
• Contribute to design and architectural decisions and provide leadership and expertise to the workforce.
• Test and validate development and production code that you own, deploy, and monitor.
• Understand, respond to, and address customer issues with empathy and in a timely manner.
• Independently move a major feature or service through the full lifecycle of design, development, deployment, and maintenance.
• Gain deep knowledge of multiple teams' domains and a broad understanding of CW systems; create documentation of system requirements and behavior across domains.
• Willingly take on unowned and undesirable work that helps team velocity and quality.
• Stay in touch with client needs and understand their usage.
• Get consulted on quality, scaling and performance requirements before development on new features begins.
• Understand, find, and propose solutions for systemic problems.
• Lead the technical breakdown of deliverables and capabilities into features and stories.
• Be expert in unit testing techniques and design for testability; contribute to automated system testing requirements and design.
• Improve code quality and architecture to ensure testability and maintainability.
• Understand, design, and test for impact and performance on dependencies and adjacent components and services.
• Build and maintain code in the context of the larger system.
• Help less experienced engineers troubleshoot and solve problems; be active in mentoring and training others inside and outside the division.

What you'll need

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field.
• 7+ years professional experience in industry-leading programming languages (Java/Python).
• Strong problem-solving skills.
• Experience with an object-oriented or functional language.
• Background in SDLC and Agile practices.
• Experience in monitoring production systems.
• Experience with Machine Learning.
• Experience working with Cloud Platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP).
• Experience working with messaging systems such as Cloud Pub/Sub, Kafka, or SQS/SNS.
• Must be able to communicate (speak, read, comprehend, write in English).

Nice to have

• Ability to build scalable backend services (Microservices, polyglot storage, messaging systems, data processing pipelines).
• Strong analytical skills, with excellent problem-solving abilities in the face of ambiguity.
• Excellent written and verbal skills.
• Ability to contribute to software design documentation, presentations, sequence diagrams, and present complex technical designs concisely.
• Professional experience building distributed software systems, specializing in big data and NoSQL database technologies (Hadoop, Spark, DynamoDB, HBase, Hive, Cassandra, Vertica).
• Ability to work with relational and NoSQL databases.
• Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
• Detail oriented, motivated, and a team player.
