Overview
Senior Software Engineer working on the Mastercard Send platform and services, which enable secure, near real-time payment transfers to and from card, bank and digital accounts globally. The role develops and enhances applications and services, drives engineering excellence, and supports high availability across connected services.
What you'll do
- Own complex problems with dependencies across services and facilitate cross-functional team interactions to drive resolution.
- Write code to build and enhance applications and services, and promote code reviews, code scanning and standard development practices.
- Define, design and develop service-level procedures and solutions to meet business requirements and enhancements.
- Participate and contribute to the team’s agile process and decisions, including prioritization.
- Drive prioritization decisions and trade-offs with product partners.
- Identify opportunities and build backlogs to enhance the primary service or function.
- Automate and simplify software delivery and development.
- Lead by example with hands-on approaches to demonstrate engineering excellence.
- Troubleshoot and refactor existing code for exceptional code quality.
- Drive seamless integration across connected services to meet end-user expectations.
- Drive a blameless postmortem culture, identify incident root causes and implement learnings.
- Introduce new technologies and architecture following enterprise guidelines.
- Advocate for engineering principles outside the current organization or platform.
- Provide development and architecture guidance to team members.
- Build relationships and effective partnerships across organizations.
- Write and evaluate recommendations for job promotions based on an unbiased view of accomplishments.
- Conduct technical interviews for hiring engineering staff and raise the performance bar.
- Work on cross-functional and large projects with globally dispersed development resources.
- Apply tools and techniques to scan and measure code quality and anti-patterns as part of development activity.
- Author test code with smaller tests, contract tests at service level and journey tests at integration level to keep the full testing pyramid healthy.
- Elaborate and estimate non-functional requirements, including security, regulatory and performance requirements.
- Orchestrate release workflows and pipelines, and apply standardized pipelines via APIs to achieve CI and CD.
- Perform debugging and troubleshooting to analyze core, heap and thread dumps and remove coding errors.
- Conduct product demos and coordinate with product owners to drive product acceptance sign-offs.
- Understand customer journeys and continuously reduce Mean time to mitigate (MTTM) for incidents while ensuring high availability, with 99.95% as a starting point.
- Abide by Mastercard’s security policies and practices.
- Ensure the confidentiality and integrity of accessed information.
- Report suspected information security violations or breaches.
- Complete periodic mandatory security trainings in accordance with Mastercard’s guidelines.
What you'll need
- Ability to write secure code in three or more languages, such as Java, JavaScript and SQL.
- Familiarity with secure coding standards, such as OWASP, CWE and SEI CERT, and vulnerability management.
- Knowledge and experience with infrastructure as code and cloud-first software development.
- Understanding and implementation of standard branching, such as Gitflow, and peer review practices.
- Ability to move the team towards trunk-based development.
- Skills with test-driven development and behavior-driven development (TDD and BDD).
- Understanding of basic design patterns, including factory, adaptor, singleton, composite, observer, strategy and inversion of control.
- Understanding of advanced design patterns, including service-to-worker, MVC, API gateway, intercepting filter, dependency injection and lazy loading from the gang of four.
- Understanding and implementation of Application Programming Interface (API) standards and cataloging to drive API or service adoption and commercialization and effort estimation.
- Experience in agile and modern SDLC practices, including Scrum, Kanban, Continuous Delivery, DevOps and Quality engineering.
- Skills to elaborate and estimate non-functional requirements, including data protection, authentication, authorization, regulatory requirements, SLAs, throughput and transactions per second.
- Skills to orchestrate release workflows and pipelines and apply standardized pipelines via APIs to achieve CI and CD using industry-standard tools, such as Jenkins, AWS/Azure pipelines and XL Release.
- Familiarity with application patterns for APIs, event-driven services, batch services, web applications and big data.
- Experience with Continuous Integration (CI) and Delivery (CD) concepts and capabilities supporting automation, pipelines, virtualization and containerization.
- Skills to conduct product demos and coordinate with product owners to drive product acceptance sign-offs.
- Skills to understand customer journeys, continuously reduce Mean time to mitigate (MTTM) for incidents and ensure high availability.

- Infrastructure as code and cloud-first software development knowledge and experience are preferred.
