Senior Software Engineer (Senior Quality Engineering)

Overview

Drive quality excellence across Telstra’s digital platforms and services by designing scalable test automation solutions and embedding quality throughout the software development lifecycle. Collaborate with software engineers, architects, and product teams to deliver reliable, secure, and high-performing applications using automation, CI/CD, cloud-native testing, DevOps, and AI-powered quality engineering.

What you'll do

• Drive a quality-first engineering culture through Shift-Left and continuous testing practices.
• Design and develop scalable test automation frameworks for web, APIs, microservices, and cloud-native applications.
• Champion test automation, TDD, BDD, and CI/CD practices across engineering teams.
• Leverage AI-powered tools and GenAI capabilities to improve test design, automation, defect detection, and developer productivity.
• Lead performance, reliability, security, and non-functional testing initiatives.
• Collaborate with engineers, architects, and product teams to embed quality throughout the SDLC.
• Mentor and coach teams on modern Quality Engineering practices and automation excellence.
• Continuously evaluate emerging technologies and innovative testing solutions.
• Generate and optimize automated test cases using AI tools.
• Use GenAI for coding, debugging, test data creation, and automation development.
• Validate AI-generated outputs and implement responsible AI testing practices.
• Apply prompt engineering techniques to improve engineering productivity.

What you'll need

• Strong experience of 8-12 years in Software Quality Engineering, Test Automation, or Software Engineering roles.
• Hands-on expertise in Java.
• Hands-on expertise in Playwright.
• Hands-on expertise in Selenium.
• Hands-on expertise in RestAssured.
• Hands-on expertise in Cucumber.
• Hands-on expertise in API and Microservices Testing.
• Strong understanding of TDD.
• Strong understanding of BDD.
• Strong understanding of CI/CD.
• Strong understanding of DevOps.
• Strong understanding of Agile delivery practices.
• Experience building and maintaining scalable automation frameworks.
• Knowledge of cloud platforms, preferably Azure, along with Docker and Kubernetes.
• Strong experience in database, integration, and performance testing.
• Proven ability to mentor teams and influence quality engineering best practices.
• Experience with AI-assisted development and testing tools such as GitHub Copilot, Microsoft Copilot, or AI-powered testing platforms.

Nice to have

• Experience implementing AI-driven testing and intelligent automation solutions.
• Exposure to testing AI/ML and Generative AI applications.
• Telecom domain experience (OSS/BSS).
• Experience with performance engineering tools such as JMeter, K6, or Gatling.
• Knowledge of Contract Testing, DevSecOps, and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform/Ansible).
• Experience driving Quality Engineering transformation initiatives.
