Senior Software Engineer, Video Platform

Overview

Senior Software Engineer for Roku’s Video Platform Engineering team, building next-generation video services for the Roku Cloud TV Platform.

What you'll do

• Design and implement highly scalable, reliable web-scale applications.
• Translate functional specifications into logical, component-based technical designs.
• Contribute to the design and implementation of core backend components for video services.
• Write and review code, and evaluate architectural tradeoffs for performance and security.
• Collaborate with other engineering groups to support video services initiatives.
• Manage individual project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables with limited supervision.

What you'll need

• 5+ years of solid programming experience using Java core libraries and web server application development.
• Experience with object-oriented design and design patterns.
• Experience building high-performance, cloud-based scalable micro-services.
• Experience with modern micro-services architectures and API frameworks (REST/JSON).
• Experience with web servers such as Apache and Tomcat, and deploying services on AWS cloud.
• Experience with NoSQL stores (e.g., Cassandra, DynamoDB, Redis) and RDBMS (e.g., Oracle, MySQL).
• Domain expertise in OTT video delivery and related areas is highly preferred.

• Employment level includes a stated requirement of a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science plus 8 years of experience (Master's preferred).
• Hybrid working model: teams generally work in the office Monday through Thursday; Fridays are generally flexible for remote work.
• Ability to handle periodic on-call duty and out-of-band requests is required.
