Senior Staff Software Engineer, Finhub

Overview

Senior Staff Software Engineer on Coinbase’s FinHub team, defining the technical vision for financial infrastructure that powers ledger and money movement.

What you'll do

• Define and drive multi-quarter technical strategy for FinHub’s ledger and money-movement platform.
• Architect reusable primitives across fiat and crypto fund flows, including balances, holds, settlements, postings, transfers, and transaction history.
• Lead rearchitecture of distributed financial workflows and state transitions with standards for accounting, idempotency, invariants, reconciliation, auditability, and safe failure recovery.
• Drive end-to-end design and rollout of large cross-team initiatives with milestones, migration plans, and measurable outcomes.
• Partner with Payments, Product, Finance, Risk, Compliance, and Operations to align architecture with customer, regulatory, and business priorities.
• Provide deep technical mentorship to senior and staff engineers across design, operations excellence, technical writing, and maintainability.

What you'll need

• 12+ years of software engineering experience.
• Experience building and operating large-scale backend distributed systems in production.
• Deep experience with financial, payments, ledger, banking, trading, or other high-consequence transaction systems where correctness and auditability are essential.
• Expertise in distributed systems, consistency models, asynchronous workflows, and state machines.
• Backend programming experience in Go, Java, or Python.
• Experience leading multi-quarter technical strategy across multiple engineering teams without direct authority.

• Pay transparency: annual base salary range $253,895–$298,700 USD.
