Overview
Software Developer III responsible for designing, installing, testing, maintaining, and supporting software programs. The role works on problems of a diverse scope with little instruction on day-to-day work and general instruction on new assignments.
What you'll do
- Consult with supervisors, systems analysts, other programmers, and end users to gather information about program intent, functions, features, data requirements, input requirements, output requirements, internal and external checks and controls, hardware and operating system environments, and interfaces with other systems.
- Design and write program specifications based on consultations with supervisors, systems analysts, other programmers, and end users.
- Convert designs and specifications into computer code.
- Compile code into programs and correct errors detected in the compile process.
- Create test transactions and run tests to find errors and confirm that programs meet specifications.
- Analyze code to find causes of errors and revise programs.
- Write and maintain documentation of changes to computer code, programs, and specifications.
- Design and code layouts for onscreen user interfaces, printed outputs, and interfaces with other systems.
- Engage in user review and review technical documentation written by others to confirm consistency with program operations.
- Provide technical assistance by responding to inquiries regarding errors, problems, or questions with programs.
- Revise programs for corrections, enhancements, or system environment changes.
- Train end users or technical support staff to use and support programs.
- Perform other duties as required.
What you'll need
- Bachelor’s degree (B.S/B.A) from a four-year college or university and 5 to 8 years’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Network with senior internal and external personnel in own area of expertise.
- Demonstrate good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.
- Experience with programming or computer science/engineering.
- Familiarity with relational database schemas and SQL.
- Knowledge of using modern developmental tools.
- Knowledge of how to program a software program, Windows or web based, that interacts with a relational database.
- Knowledge of coding languages.
- Familiarity with various development methodologies.
