Software Engineer - Android

Overview

Design, build, and evolve Android experiences for Motive customers, owning projects from technical design through production. Reports to Amogh Palnitkar, Engineering Manager.

What you'll do

• Own end-to-end development of Android features from technical design through launch and ongoing improvements.
• Translate product requirements into maintainable Android architecture and intuitive user experiences.
• Build firmware features for Motive's next-generation hardware, working across teams to deliver reliable device experiences.
• Collaborate with product, design, backend, QA, and support teams to deliver cohesive customer experiences.
• Investigate complex bugs and performance issues, identify root causes, and drive durable fixes.
• Improve engineering quality through code reviews, automated testing, documentation, and development practices.

What you'll need

• 5+ years of software engineering experience, including significant Android application development.
• Strong proficiency in Kotlin and Java with a deep understanding of Android SDKs, lifecycle management, and persistence.
• Experience designing and maintaining modular Android applications using modern architecture patterns such as MVVM.
• Experience with automated testing, debugging, performance optimization, and CI/CD practices.
• Ability to independently drive complex projects, evaluate technical trade-offs, and communicate decisions clearly across teams.
• The applicant must be authorized to receive and access those commodities and technologies controlled under U.S. Export Administration Regulations.
