Software Engineer | C/C++ , Linux based platforms, DWDM, Networking protocols | 8-12 years

Overview

Develop and maintain embedded and networking software for Cisco's optical networking solutions, working on C/C++ across Linux-based platforms.

What you'll do

• Develop software consistent with Cisco Design Thinking Principles, with a focus on simplification using secure coding practices and software development best practices.
• Partner with other teams, including design and product management, to create the right solution for customers.
• Debug and address software issues during development and in production systems to support customers.
• Bring new ideas for product innovation and help improve software development processes.
• Develop embedded systems software for specialized hardware platforms and devices.
• Apply agile methodologies to improve software development efficiency.
• Optimize embedded systems for resource constraints and real-time requirements.
• Execute tests for scale, reliability and velocity within your own code.
• Apply depth of knowledge in secure coding principles and review others' code for compliance.
• Collaborate with team members to share learnings or assist in problem solving and resolution.
• Debug and troubleshoot software issues to ensure product reliability and performance.

What you'll need

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field with 9-12 years of experience.
• Excellent C/C++ programming skills.
• Strong software engineering fundamentals, including modular design, clean coding, unit testing, and code reviews.
• Experience developing software on Linux-based systems.
• Strong experience with concurrent programming, multithreading, synchronisation, and IPC/RPC mechanisms.
• Hands-on debugging experience using tools such as GDB, Valgrind, core dumps, packet captures and Wireshark/tcpdump or equivalent.
• Excellent knowledge of software architecture and system design.
• Hands-on experience with software debugging, performance analysis, and fixing in sophisticated networking environments.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with networking protocols such as DWDM, OTN, Ethernet etc.
• Strong foundation in embedded system concepts.
• Knowledge of AI tools, frameworks, or methodologies.
• Experience optimising networking performance, scalability, and reliability in hyper-scale cloud or AI environments.
• Hands-on experience using traffic generators/analysers such as IXIA/JDSU.
