Software Engineer III – Data Platform and Analytics

Overview

Software Engineer III on the Data Platform and Analytics team, designing and building cloud-native data and analytics services for P&C insurers on Guidewire's platform.

What you'll do

• Design, develop, and operate cloud-native data platform and analytics SaaS services that are secure, scalable, and reliable.
• Build and maintain large-scale, real-time stream processing and data ingestion systems that power analytics, data science, and reporting for customers.
• Design, implement, and run microservices-based solutions using modern Java and frameworks such as Spring Boot, applying microservices and domain-driven design patterns.
• Contribute to intuitive, performant user experiences using modern frontend technologies (React.js or Angular, HTML, CSS, JavaScript) for data and analytics workflows.
• Own CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation for your services, leveraging containers and Kubernetes for fast, safe, and repeatable releases.
• Take responsibility for availability, performance, observability, and data security of your services, including triaging and resolving production issues and defects.
• Maintain secure coding practices, address application security findings, and collaborate with Security and platform teams to support governance and compliance goals.

What you'll need

• Demonstrated ability to embrace AI and apply it to your current role as well as data-driven insights to drive innovation, productivity, and continuous improvement.
• 6+ years of relevant software engineering experience building production-grade services or applications.
• Experience designing and developing backend services in Java, ideally with Spring Boot, and familiarity with microservices and multithreading concepts.
• Solid understanding of algorithms, data structures, and performance optimization techniques, especially in distributed or data-intensive systems.
• Strong programming skills in JavaScript and at least one modern frontend framework such as React.js or Angular, with solid knowledge of HTML and CSS.
• Working knowledge of relational databases (such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, or similar) and experience with data warehousing technologies such as Amazon Redshift or equivalent.
• Familiarity with microservices architecture patterns such as service discovery, API gateways, and domain-driven design.
• Ability to thrive in an agile, fast-paced environment, collaborating across functions and locations in a transparent, inclusive way.
• Clear, respectful communication skills and a growth mindset, with a willingness to learn new tools, domains, and ways of working.

Nice to have

• Hands-on experience with AWS or another major public cloud provider (e.g., IAM, networking, managed databases, streaming services).
• Experience building and operating containerized services using Docker and Kubernetes; familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform.
• Exposure to building large-scale real-time data streaming or event-driven systems (e.g., Apache Kafka, Kinesis, or similar).
• Experience with observability and logging stacks such as ELK (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana) or equivalent tools.
• Familiarity with CI/CD tools such as TeamCity or similar systems.
• Understanding of distributed systems principles (consistency, availability, durability, reliability, fault tolerance, consensus algorithms) and how to apply them in production systems.
• Experience with AWS RDS or other managed relational database services.
