Software Engineer (Java / Springboot)

Overview

Develop and maintain scalable, secure backend applications using Java and Spring Boot, with cloud-native deployment on AWS, within Velsera's Agile (SAFe) delivery teams.

What you'll do

• Develop, test, and maintain high-quality, scalable, and secure applications.
• Use AWS services to build and deploy cloud-native applications.
• Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code adhering to industry best practices and internal coding standards.
• Effectively leverage AI-assisted development tools, applying prompt engineering and context management techniques, while critically reviewing and validating AI-generated outputs.
• Create comprehensive unit and integration tests using JUnit and participate in CI/CD pipelines using tools like Jenkins, GitLab CI, or AWS Code-Pipeline.
• Troubleshoot, profile, and optimize existing code for performance, scalability, and reliability.
• Follow secure coding practices and comply with organizational and client-specific security policies and standards.
• Understand and adhere to applicable data privacy, compliance, and governance regulations while building cloud-native solutions.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date system and process documentation, especially for production-critical services.
• Take responsibility for assigned features or modules from design through deployment and monitoring.
• Build features with a deep understanding of user needs and business impact.
• Participate in production support activities, including bug fixes, incident resolution, and root cause analysis, when required.
• Actively participate in quarterly planning sessions, contributing to estimation, capacity planning, and defining objectives.
• Work in short iterations/sprints, delivering committed stories, and attend regular ceremonies (daily standups, sprint reviews, retrospectives).
• Work closely with Product Owners, Scrum Masters, Architects, and fellow developers to align development efforts with business goals.
• Maintain clear, timely, and effective communication using tools like Microsoft Teams, Jira, and Confluence.
• Coordinate effectively with global and cross-functional teams spread across multiple time zones.

What you'll need

• 3+ years of professional software development experience.
• Strong backend development skills with Java and Spring Boot.
• Hands-on experience with RESTful API design and microservices architecture.
• Solid understanding of MongoDB and PostgreSQL (intermediate level).
• Familiarity with AWS services, including Lambda, EKS, Step Functions, and CloudWatch.
• Practical experience with AI-assisted development, including creating effective prompts, using reusable AI skills, and understanding how tools and integrations such as MCP can enhance development workflows.
