Software Engineering Manager -Big Data Engineering Manager

Overview

Lead a team of engineers building and operating mission-critical Risk and Finance data platforms, blending software engineering leadership, data engineering and SRE practices.

What you'll do

• Manage, coach, and develop a team of individual contributor engineers and less experienced managers building high quality capabilities with modern technology.
• Engage with architects and experienced engineers to incorporate Wells Fargo Technology technical strategies and enable application migration paths to target architecture (cloud readiness, application modernization, data strategy).
• Function as the technical representative for the product during cross-team collaborative efforts and planning.
• Identify and recommend opportunities for driving resolution of technology roadblocks including code, build and deployment, while managing the software development cycle and security standards.
• Act as an escalation partner for scrum masters and teams, helping remove impediments and encouraging a culture of learning, experimentation and continual improvement.
• Build engineering skills side-by-side in the codebase, conduct peer reviews, and guide design as needed.
• Interpret, develop, and ensure security, stability, and scalability of technology functions, and identify, manage and mitigate technology and enterprise risk.
• Collaborate with Product Managers/Product Owners to drive user satisfaction, influence technology requirements and the product roadmap, and articulate technical strategy while advocating agile and DevOps practices.
• Interact directly with third party vendors and technology service providers.
• Manage allocation of people and financial resources for technology engineering, including career development and performance management for engineers and managers.
• Hire, mentor and guide talent development of direct reports.
• Lead engineers delivering production-grade data platforms for Risk, Finance, and Regulatory reporting.
• Own reliability, availability, performance, and recoverability of data platforms.
• Apply SRE principles: observability, automation and tooling.
• Partner closely with Risk and Finance stakeholders to deliver accurate, reconciled, auditable data under strict deadlines.
• Collaborate daily with Data Platform, Private Cloud, Infrastructure and platform teams.
• Drive fast, high-quality execution while balancing delivery, stability, and regulatory risk.
• Lead incident response, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement.
• Act with urgency to unblock teams, resolve issues, and keep critical platforms stable.

What you'll need

• 5+ years of Software Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through work experience, training, military experience, or education.
• 2+ years of Leadership experience.

• Big Data and storage: Apache Iceberg, Hive, Big Data platforms.
• Processing and streaming: Spark, Kafka.
• Platforms: Data Private Cloud, NexusOne Intelligence Cloud.
• Cloud and infrastructure: Private Cloud / Hybrid Cloud environments.
• Practices: CI/CD, observability, automation, incident management.
