Software QA Engineer - 5+yrs - Routing/SDWAN/L2/L3/Ruby/Python

Overview

Senior Software Development Engineer in Test on the Cisco MX QA team, supporting test qualification of the Cisco Meraki Dashboard for Cisco Meraki MX and Cisco Catalyst products, with a focus on SD-WAN and security solutions.

What you'll do

• Develop a comprehensive understanding of the use cases and workflows of the MX solution deployed in customer environments.
• Participate in requirements and design discussions with Product managers and the development team, representing the QA team.
• Design a test strategy document for Cisco MX features and collaborate with other QA and development teams to cover all aspects of the features being developed.
• Execute tests and report test results and test metrics.
• Design and build testbeds.
• Create and execute integrated and application tests that resemble customer use cases for SD-WAN and security solutions over physical, cloud and on-prem Cisco Meraki MX and Cisco Catalyst products via the Cisco Meraki Dashboard.
• Develop automation scripts ahead of feature testing to enable CI/CD (automation-driven testing).
• Evaluate and develop simple features when required using a Test Driven Development approach.
• Evaluate and provide a fix for defects identified during testing.
• Invest in AI-driven innovation and out-of-the-box thinking to productize original ideas.
• Analyse test gaps that resulted in customer issues and incorporate them into the test strategy.
• Proactively identify gaps in regression test automation and improve automation coverage.
• Collaborate with multiple Cisco engineering teams and stakeholders around the globe as part of a geographically distributed team.

What you'll need

• Bachelor's or Master of Science degree in Computer Science or an equivalent or related field, or equivalent experience.
• 8+ years of experience as a Software Development Engineer in Test in the routing or SD-WAN domain.
• At least 5+ years of automation or development experience.
• In-depth knowledge of SDWAN.
• In-depth knowledge of Security.
• In-depth knowledge of Layer-2 (VLAN/802.1Q).
• In-depth knowledge of Layer-3 (BGP/IP/OSPF/VPN/IPSec/NAT).
• Ability to ramp up quickly on new technologies and concepts.
• Proficiency in writing quality code in one of Ruby, Python, or Golang.
• Hands-on experience with AI coding tools and Gen-AI prompting techniques.
• Good understanding of traffic generators such as TRex, Linux tools, Spirent, IXIA, etc., and ability to explore tools and techniques to improve testing.
• Effective communication skills and a proven track record of collaboration with stakeholders.

Nice to have

• AI usage day-in and day-out.
• Feature bug fixing with better quality in Firmware, Backend or UI.
• Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to peers and management.
• Research of applications and framework experience, including obtained patent(s) or published whitepaper / yellow paper on embedded solutions.
• Experience developing frameworks for CI/CD pipelines.
• Working experience with Cisco and/or Cisco Catalyst devices.
