Sr. Engineer - Application Support N 4B

Overview

Database-focused engineer supporting the data layer behind Hines web and AI applications, with emphasis on database object development, query optimization, API development, and reporting structures. Hands-on database engineering role that partners with web application developers.

What you'll do

• Design, develop, enhance, and support SQL Server database objects, including stored procedures, views, common table expressions, scalar functions, table-valued functions, and indexes.
• Build and maintain reporting tables and other fit-for-purpose data structures used by applications, analytics, AI, and operational reporting.
• Review query execution plans and execution paths to identify bottlenecks and recommend practical improvements.
• Optimize queries and database objects through appropriate indexing, query rewrites, statistics awareness, and other database tuning techniques.
• Proactively monitor and troubleshoot data and performance issues across application, API, and database boundaries; explain findings clearly and recommend durable fixes.
• Consider data accuracy, concurrency, error handling, maintainability, and operational impact when designing database changes.
• Work with software developers, analysts, and stakeholders to clarify requirements, estimate database work, and coordinate implementation.
• Provide database expertise during design and code reviews, deployments, and production troubleshooting.
• Document database behavior and important design decisions so the team can maintain and extend its systems.

What you'll need

• Developing and supporting relational databases in production environments.
• Strong SQL skills and substantial hands-on experience with SQL Server and/or PostgreSQL.
• Experience designing and maintaining stored procedures, views, functions, and other database objects.
• Practical experience analyzing execution plans, optimizing queries, and designing or improving indexes.
• Sound understanding of relational data modeling, normalization, keys, constraints, and transaction concepts.
• Experience creating or supporting data extracts and other structures consumed by applications and analytics.
• Ability to trace data flow through application code, APIs, database objects, and downstream reporting or warehouse processes.
• Experience building or maintaining APIs and backend services, or contributing to web application development.
• Clear communication and collaboration skills, including the ability to explain technical tradeoffs to software developers and business partners.
• Qualifications: Bachelor's - Computer Engineering, Bachelor's - Computer Science, Bachelor's - Information Technology, or Master's - Software Engineering.
• English language proficiency: Proficient - C2 (required).

Nice to have

• Experience with Python, C#, JavaScript, TypeScript, or React-based applications.
• Exposure to ETL/ELT tooling, data warehouse implementation, Power BI, Tableau, SSRS, or similar reporting platforms.
• Familiarity with deploying DACPAC packages.
• Experience with Azure services, Azure DevOps, CI/CD pipelines and automated testing.
• Familiarity with NoSQL databases, Master Data Management, AI integrations, or real estate data.
• Certification: Splunk Certified User - Splunk.
