Sr MTS Software Engineer, Data Platforms

Overview

Sr MTS Software Engineer for eBay’s Core Data Platform (Golden Data Sets Platform) focused on building a declarative data platform and the systems that run it.

What you'll do

• Own and deliver major components of eBay Data Platforms from design through production rollout.
• Design and evolve distributed systems for ingestion, streaming, lakehouse/warehouse, catalog, and governance.
• Build systems balancing latency at scale, correctness, cost, and security/compliance.
• Drive operational excellence for owned services including observability and incident response.
• Collaborate with product, infra, and analytics teams to align execution with business needs.
• Contribute to computation graph management, pipeline optimization, and dataset lifecycle systems.

What you'll need

• 12+ years of software engineering experience, primarily in distributed systems or data platforms.
• Experience designing large-scale distributed systems (compute, storage, APIs, streaming).
• Ability to independently deliver complex projects from requirements to production.
• Proficiency in Java/Python, CI/CD, and containerized environments.
• Hands-on expertise with Kafka/Flink, Spark, Delta/Iceberg, Kubernetes, and NoSQL/columnar stores.
• Experience in streaming and batch data platforms.
