Sr Software Engineer - Cloud Platform—Kubernetes, Hyperscalers & Distributed Systems

Overview

Senior Software Engineer working on ServiceNow’s Kubernetes platform and core subsystems, owning a scoped area end to end across design, build, and operations.

What you'll do

• Design, build, and operate components of a Kubernetes platform and its core subsystems.
• Write and review Go code for controllers, operators, platform services, and related automation.
• Drive defined problems with open design questions to production-ready solutions.
• Support operations for what the team builds, including on-call and incident investigation.
• Work with dependent teams to shape how workloads run on the platform.
• Consider compliance constraints (including FedRAMP) when shaping design choices.

What you'll need

• Experience integrating AI into engineering work (tooling, automation, or reasoning about impact on software/infrastructure).
• Already built and shipped Kubernetes infrastructure or production platform components that you designed and owned.
• 5+ years building production software with real Kubernetes workload operation and debugging.
• Strong Go programming skills (or systems-language skills with willingness to work primarily in Go).
• Working experience with at least one major hyperscaler (AWS, Azure, or GCP), including compute, networking, and IAM primitives.
• Comfort with containers, CI/CD, GitOps delivery, and infrastructure-as-code.

Nice to have

• Experience building Kubernetes controllers or operators using the operator pattern.
• Exposure to container networking (CNI), service mesh, or workload identity/mTLS.
• Experience with secrets management and certificate lifecycle for platform subsystems.
• Experience with observability tooling (metrics, tracing, and SLOs).
• Experience with managed Kubernetes (EKS/AKS/GKE), Terraform, or Crossplane.
